Jeffrey Town Farmers Association Ltd. provides development services, it owns and operates a community radio station JET FM 88.7 housed in the JTFA Building which we built ourselves, an internet café with broadband service and free hot spot in a community that has been shunned by landline telephone technology, the women’s group makes confectionery for income generation and as a group we raise and sell chickens.
As farmers we have undertaken land husbandry, tree planting and gabion basket installation in the community to mitigate erosion problems on our mainly clay soils: we are establishing an organic demonstration farm site for the parish including greenhouse technology. We provide training opportunities and facilities for our members and the wider community and have an on going relationship with the Commonwealth Of Learning and CARIMAC as support for radio programming used to drive the development process at two levels - youth development with the hope of job creation at the radio station and wider community upliftment through knowledge based programming made for our specific audience.
