Description

The Nurse Anaesthesia Programme is based on a nursing and pre-medical background of sciences and involves an in-depth application of these sciences to the art of anaesthesia. Graduates of this programme are qualified to work in the CARICOM Region in every area of anaesthesia, as practitioners, administrators and educators.

The programme was preceded by nurses going to Philadelphia, Cuba and then the SS Hope, to pursue training. In 1981 the JSNA was opened, offering a Certificate after 26 months, this was upgraded to a Diploma after the programme’s curriculum was reviewed and extended to 32 months. The school is located on the Kingston Public/Victoria Jubilee Hospitals Complex, but is expected to go into the University of Technology in the near future, offering a Masters degree.
