Sprint Parish
He laughs at the fact that Olympic champions Usain Bolt, Veronica Campbell-Brown and other athletes are fellow Trelawny natives. “I just think that like the Kenyans are for long distance, Trelawny and the west is just for top athletes,” said Weir in an interview with The Gleaner.

Changing Lanes
Weir was a 110 metre hurdler and vice-captain of Calabar's Boys' Athletics Championship team. He turned to the 200 metres last year after constant knee issues. Weir says Racer’s Track Club Coach Glen Mills had told him from high school that he would turn him into a sprinter because he didn't see him as a hurdler. And when Weir joined the track club, the transition was made.

Improvements
In his first Diamond League meet last August 2011, he clocked 20.43. That time was followed by times of 20.21 at the Jamaica International Invitational on May 5 and 20.13 in The Cayman Islands three days later. He ran a then-personal best 20.08 at the Adidas Grand Prix meet in New York in June. Impressive
In March 2012 Weir recorded an impressive win in the men's Olympic Development 200 metres in 20.65 seconds. This was the fastest time among all male athletes at the event at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Invitational track and field meeting at the Usain Bolt Stadium.

Lifetime best
The Racers Track Club sprint hurdler-turned-200m specialist stopped the clock at 20.08 seconds at the Adidas Grand Prix, the New York Diamond League meeting at Icahn Stadium in June 2012. He recorded four ‘lifetime best’ clockings in his most recent runs. In this photo Weir addresses students during the Gleaner Champs 100 Tour at the Calabar High School.

Olympic dreams
Weir crossed the finish line in the 200 metres at the National Trials for the 2012 London Olympics in 20.03 seconds. He recorded his personal best of 19.99 in the semi-finals. That day he fulfilled his dream of qualifying for the Olympics. In this photo Weir qualifies for the 200m finals in London.

Clean Sweep
Weir shocked the nation when he powered to third place in the mens 200m final at the London Olympics behind track club mates Usain Bolt (19.32) and Yohan Blake (19.44) for a clean sweep for Jamaica. This was his personal best at 19.84.

Gods of track and field
Being a part of the Racers Track Club, since turning pro in 2009, Weir trains alongside the two men who finished ahead of him in the 100m final. "They (Bolt and Yohan Blake) are very good friends of mine. I would say it's like training with the gods of track and field," he said.
